This article goes right along with what we were talking about today in class. Using the teaching for understanding framework is the new 21st century way of teaching. I believe it could be used with or without technology. I like the fact in using technology since we are a technology based world. The three teachers who sighted their projects made a powerful impact on the students learning as well to the community. The teaching for understanding framework is a good way to teach because it promotes students to have a deeper meaning of what they are learning. And our goal as teachers is for the students to remember what they have been taught so they can apply it to their life, not just to memorize information for a test.
I also liked how the article broke down the "Elements of and Criteria for Teaching for Understanding". I really like to use a guide or rubric when I am trying to meet my goals and objectives. This will help me when doing my framework for my projects. I think that it is important to give students rubric to help them guide their learning as well, which I am going to incorporate in my projects.
As you talked about in class today... the article also talks about how technology is helping students develop deeper understanding of the curriculum using such technology as: internet, calculators, e-mail, graphing, multi-media etc. Like you said in class today, we need to be accountable for why we are using technology in the classroom and show parents and administrators that research has shown technology is beneficial for students learning in the 21st century.
I enjoyed reading the article.

If we're going to spend thousands of dollars on technology for schools, we need to make sure that we are using it in the most effective way.
When using rubrics for students, it's often useful to involve them in the creation of the rubric. With teacher direction they can brainstorm the characteristics that define the best from the not so good.
